Kindergarten Readiness - for TK students
The TK class is designed to build strong early literacy skills through play, movement, and engaging activities! Students learn and review all letter names, letter sounds, practice proper letter formation, and build oral blending skills that support reading CVC words.

Skills are taught through explicit instruction, hands-on activities, and interactive games that keep learning fun and meaningful. One class favorite is our Mystery Guest activity! Students listen to clues about a surprise stuffed animal—what sound it starts with, which vowel is in it, what words it rhymes with—then they name it and use their knowledge of letter sounds to spell the given name.

This class helps children build confidence, strengthen foundational literacy skills, and develop excitement for reading!

Calling all Kindergartners
This class begins with a letter-sound assessment to identify the skills each child is ready to learn next. Students are taught any letter sounds they have not yet mastered while also building strong oral blending skills. Learning to blend sounds orally first helps make the transition to reading words on a page feel easier and more natural.

In this class, we work toward automatic reading of CVC words, then progress to consonant blends, digraphs, and CVCe words. We also build sight word knowledge, fluency, and automaticity through hands-on activities, games, and partner reading. Along the way, students learn proper letter formation, strengthen spelling skills, and develop an excitement about learning to read!

Each class begins with a group mini-lesson on a topic for which all students need support, like syllable division, R-controlled vowels, or prefixes/suffixes. Each student then completes a hands-on activity tailored to the specific spelling pattern they are learning, while receiving individualized support.

Children strengthen their skills through partner reading, sight word games, writing activities, and dictation practice—making learning active, meaningful, and engaging. To closely monitor growth, I meet one-on-one with each child every other month to assess progress, check retention, and ensure instruction continues to match their individual needs.

The content of these classes is aligned with grade-level expectations. If you believe your child would benefit from a class that is above or below their current grade level, please feel free to reach out. I'm happy to discuss what would be the best fit for your child.
